Kate says . . .
I have always loved listening to music. I think the iPod was one of the most amazing inventions because it allows me to keep my music all in one place and I can take it anywhere with me. I love listening to many genres of music, praise music being my favorite. There is very little that moves and inspires me more than a praise song. Brad will tell you that I am always listening to music and I always have a song on my heart. Music speaks to my soul!
Recently our worship leader introduced us to Matt Redman’s fairly new song, Never Once. I have been listening to it and mulling it over and I felt God speaking clearly to my heart, that there is a very important message in there for all us married folks!
When I look back on the 12 years of our marriage, I see many valleys, many times of confusion and uncertainty. I also remember many times of laughter and hope-glimpses of the marriage I always hoped we would have. I have shared many times that I wondered if the place of confusion and disillusionment was just how marriage worked. That even though we loved each other tremendously, there would always be a big chasm between us, that neither of us seemed to be able to bridge. Then as you may also know, a miracle happened!
I often sit back and reflect and praise God for his blessings poured out onto our One Flesh journey! I also have come to look at those times and see God’s hand in all things, even the times of great confusion and heartache.
Matt Redman’s song says:
“Standing on this mountaintop
Looking just how far we’ve come
Knowing that for every step
You were with us
Kneeling on this battle ground
Seeing just how much You’ve done
Knowing every victory
Was Your power in us
Scars and struggles on the way
But with joy our hearts can say
Yes, our hearts can say
Never once did we ever walk alone
Never once did You leave us on our own
You are faithful, God, You are faithful”
I cannot completely express the emotions within me as I read those lines and reflect on the 12 years of our One Flesh journey. It speaks volumes! But the part that I wanted to share with all of the wives (and hubby’s too) out there is this: “Never once did we ever walk alone, Never once did You leave us on our own, You are faithful, God, You are faithful.” God has never left the side of you and your hubby! No matter what you have gone through, are going through or will go through in the future, He is there. When we are in the middle of the battle and things seem awful with no light at the end, he is there in the middle of our marriage. When we are standing on the mountaintop with our hubby’s, God is there too, sharing in the beauty and glory of the wonderful one flesh union he has created. Two beautiful pictures of how we are never alone.
For those of you that are struggling in your marriage, for those that feel alone and are discouraged; You are NOT alone. God is there with you and your hubby. It is His desire to see you and your hubby back to the mountaintop, yet He also knows that walking through the valley teaches us so much about ourselves and our marriage. Does God place us in those valleys? I don’t believe so. But he does allow us to walk through them, to teach us and to bring us closer to Him.
For many of us, we have been taught all through our walk with Christ, that we are not alone. But how many of us actually take that in and hold tight to it? I know there were times I forgot God’s promise. It is looking back and reflecting that I am in awe of how faithful God has been to us and our marriage. He is faithful and He has NEVER let us walk alone!
It is my prayer today, that all wives will know that God is with their one flesh journey, always! Will you share with us your thoughts and testimonies of how God has always been with you and your hubby!
Listen to Matt Redman’s new song and remember that you are not alone!
